Thyroid Biopsy

Our highly trained endocrinologists perform ultrasound guided fine needle aspiration biopsies (FNAB) of thyroid gland nodules. They have many years of expertise successfully and meticulously performing thyroid nodule biopsies and lymph node mapping in the treatment of thyroid cancer. Our team of dedicated medical professionals use cutting edge technology in the visualization of thyroid anatomy for safe and precise thyroid nodule biopsies and post surgical surveillance in thyroid cancer.

How is a thyroid nodule biopsy performed?

It is an office procedure that may require you to stop certain medications (such as blood thinners) and some supplements for a specified time prior to the procedure. After sterile preparation of the skin in the part of your neck in front of the thyroid gland, an ultrasound probe is used to locate and maintain visualization of the nodule during the procedure. A very thin fine needle is briefly inserted through the skin into the thyroid gland to obtain a sample of the nodule tissue. This tissue is then sent to the lab to determine if the nodule is benign or malignant. You can generally resume your usual activities after the biopsy.
